Mein Tipp
(1949/59 ´Apollo´) (40:29/16) Great R&B Tenor Player - incl.many prev.unreleased sides It was early 1949 before Cootie Williams was able to get his new discovery into a recording studio. A two part 78, Gator Tail , which featured almost no work from the leader but hellfire wailing from an unknown sideman was virtually unprecedented. For many years collectors went searching for the selection that gave Willis Jackson his nickname. The music heard on this disc represents the earliest of his work under his own name
Phil Lesh first met Jerry Garcia in 1959 in the clubs of Palo Alto, California. At Garcia´s suggestion, Lesh learned to play the electric bass and joined him in a new group that blended R&B, country, and rock ´n´ roll with an experimental fervor never before heard. In time for the Grateful Dead´s 40th anniversary, Phil Lesh offers the first behind-the-scenes history of the Dead. Lesh chronicles how the Dead´s signature sound emerged, flowed, and swelled to reach millions of devoted fans, from their first gigs at Frenchy´s Bikini-A-Go-Go for an audience of three, to the legendary Acid Tests, to packed stadiums around the world. In San Francisco during the Summer of Love, at Woodstock, Altamont, and the Great Pyramids of Giza, the Grateful Dead have been at the center of some of rock´s defining moments. Phil Lesh recounts what it´s been like to live at the heart of this whirlwind, impressing Miles Davis and Dizzy Gillespie, sharing the stage with Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, and the Rolling Stones. Lesh describes what it was like to storm heaven night after night, and the price he and others have paid. Bad management, drug addictions, depression, and insecurities persistently plagued the band members and would culminate with the most tragic blow of all, the death of Jerry Garcia. Searching for the Sound is a ruthlessly honest look inside one of the greatest American bands. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Phil Lesh. From New York Times best-selling author Mariah Stewart comes more ´´catnip for women´s fiction fans´´ (Booklist) in the second novel of the Hudson Sisters series. Allie, Des, and Cara, each having her own reasons for wanting a share of their father´s estate, meet in the grand Victorian home in which he grew up, only to be greeted by another secret he purposely hid from them: his sister Bonnie. The women reluctantly band together to take on Fritz´s challenge, working with a local contractor to begin the renovations financed by an account Fritz had set up for the task. While the restoration appears to go smoothly at first, it soon becomes apparent that the work will be more extensive than originally thought, and Des, elected to handle the money, needs to find ways to stretch out the remaining savings while searching for new sources of funding. As strangers linked only by their DNA try to become a family, the Hudson sisters also try to come to terms with the father they only thought they knew. In the process, each woman discovers her own capacity for understanding, forgiveness, love, and the true meaning of family. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Joy Osmanski. Inspired by a true story, artfully told by the author of Searching for Bobby Fischer: A Bahamian island becomes a battleground for a savage private war. Charismatic expat Bobby Little built his own funky version of paradise on the remote island of Rum Cay, a place where ambitious sport fishermen docked their yachts for fine French cuisine and crowded the bar to boast of big blue marlin catches while Bobby refilled their cognac on the house. Larger than life, Bobby was really the main attraction: a visionary entrepreneur, expert archer, reef surfer, bush pilot, master chef, seductive conversationalist. But after tragedy shatters the tranquility of Bobby’s marina, tourists stop visiting and simmering jealousies flare among island residents. And when a cruel, different kind of self-made entrepreneur challenges Bobby for control of the docks, all hell breaks loose. As the cobalt blue Bahamian waters run red with blood, the man who made Rum Cay his home will be lucky if he gets off the island alive....When the Ebb Tide cruises 400 miles southeast from Fort Lauderdale to Rum Cay, its captain finds the Bahamian island paradise he so fondly remembers drastically altered. Shoal covers the marina entrance, the beaches are deserted, and on shore there is a small cemetery with headstones overturned and bones sticking up through the sand. What happened to Bobby’s paradise? Cover design by Mauricio Díaz 1. Language: English. Narrator: Corey Allen. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/adbl/051848/bk_adbl_051848_sample.mp3.
