Michael Apted made his feature-film debut with this distinctive drama based on the novella of the same name by H E Bates. Reuniting Glenda Jackson with her Women in Love co-star Oliver Reed, the film also stars a young Brian Deacon (Vampyres, A Zed & Two Noughts). When a young soldier (Deacon) deserts his outfit and hides in a remote farm, the farm owner (Jackson) and he fall in love. But their idyll is shattered by the arrival of a boorish, violent army sergeant (Reed) searching for his AWOL recruit. Unconventional and superbly played, The Triple Echo is one of the finest British films of the 1970s. Long overlooked and unjustly neglected, this powerful drama is now ripe for rediscovery, and is presented in a brand new 2K restoration from the film's newly rediscovered original negative. Michel de Montaigne, one of the foremost writers of the French Renaissance and the originator of the genre of the essay, wrote on subjects ranging from friendship to imagination, from language to conscience. This collection includes 22 of Montaigne's essays, including "Of Prognostications," "Of the Custom of Wearing Clothes," "Of Pedantry," and "Of Friendship." Throughout Montaigne's writing, he approaches his subject matter with rationality and skepticism, constantly searching for truth and inquiring into the nature of the human character. Montaigne's essays have been widely read since their first publication by such great writers as Shakespeare and Ralph Waldo Emerson and continue to resonate for modern audiences. This edition is the translation by Charles Cotton. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Clive Chafer. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/tant/001995/bk_tant_001995_sample.mp3. What was Takako Konishi really doing in North Dakota, and why did she end up dead? Did she get lost and freeze to death, as the police concluded, while searching for the fictional treasure buried in a snowbank at the end of the Coen Brothers' film Fargo? Or was it something else that brought her there: unrequited love, ritual suicide, a meteor shower, a far-flung search for purpose? The seed of an obsession took root in struggling film student Jana Larson when she chanced upon a news bulletin about the case. Over the years and across continents, the material Jana gathered in her search for the real Takako outgrew multiple attempts at screenplays and became this remarkable, genre-bending essay that leans into the space between fact and fiction, life and death, author and subject, reality and delusion.
